Diversity in Scottsdale
Over the years, Scottsdale has become increasingly diverse, and families from all over the valley choose Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery. Unique celebrations
We believe that every service should be as unique as the life lived. Our attentive, experienced team is here to turn inspiration into reality. All you have to do is share your memories. Tell us about your loved one’s passions, personality, hobbies and interests, and we’ll capture the details that made them so special.
Perhaps it’s a colorful Hawaiian luau complete with fresh leis and fire dancers. Maybe it's a Monopoly-themed memorial complete with programs designed like property cards and game pieces as keepsakes. With a little inspiration and imagination, we help you create a tribute with a lasting impact. Whatever your wish, it’s our job to make it memorable.
Whether you want to arrange a traditional funeral service or modern celebration of life, large gathering or more intimate service, we'll work with you one-on-one to ensure your needs and budget are met. From floral arrangements to music selections, decor and more, we guide you through your choices with care.
Cremations in Scottsdale
There are many options for cremation in Scottsdale—and they're not all equal. We specialize in cremation services that honor loved ones in personalized ways, and families love our all-inclusive pricing. With expertise in scattering ashes and a friendly team who pays attention to every detail, we provide service that is second to none. Plus, we operate a private, on-site crematory, and if a witness cremation is your family's wish, we can accommodate that.
More and more people are choosing cremation over traditional burial, but most aren’t familiar with the many options:
- a cremation without a funeral or memorial service of any kind.
- a funeral with your loved one present, followed by cremation.
- a cremation followed by a scattering, cemetery memorialization or celebration of life—or all three.
If you're interested in cemetery placement, Green Acres Cemetery is among the prettiest in the area and has many cremation options.
For those who wish for something momentous, Neptune Memorial Reef is an underwater cremation garden off the coast of Florida. A Celestis Memorial Spaceflight takes ashes into space for a little while or forever.

Green Acres Cemetery
Scottsdale, Arizona, is a city in the desert, but you'd never know it at Green Acres Cemetery. Our 15 verdant gardens, beautiful ponds and tranquil water features offer a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of urban life. We offer extensive burial and memorialization options to meet your traditions and budget.
A range of burial options
Whether you prefer traditional burial, mausoleum entombment or cremation memorialization, we have many choices. Cemetery space may be selected in several beautiful gardens, each with its own theme and features. As an alternative to ground burial, we have a wide selection of mausoleum crypts in the Mausoleum of Love, Peace Mausoleum, Heritage Mausoleum and Serenity Mausoleum.
For those choosing cremation, we offer ground burial, marble-front mausoleum niches, columbaria niches, a peaceful cremation garden, bronze memorial plaques placed on a memorial wall, garden niches by a small pond and cremation benches.

An affordable alternative
Green Acres Cemetery has three nonvisitation community mausoleums: Peace, Heritage and Serenity. A nonvisitation mausoleum offers underground entombment, instead of aboveground entombment, which means the crypt cannot be visited. Instead, visitors pay respects at an aboveground memorial. Entombment in a nonvisitation mausoleum costs less than in other types of mausoleums. Built in 1973, Green Acres Cemetery's Peace Mausoleum was the first of its kind west of the Mississippi.
Personalized, private memorial options
Green Acres Cemetery has one of the larger selections of private family mausoleums in the Scottsdale area. Walk-in mausoleum designs feature bronze doors and stained-glass windows. Comprehensive architectural design and intricate personal symbols add beauty to a custom private family mausoleum. These attractive buildings attest to the character, success and achievements of an individual or family. We also have many sites reserved for constructing private walk-in mausoleums.
Garden dedicated to Jewish families
With stately features and mature trees, Gan Ohav Shalam Garden is dedicated to families of the Jewish faith. Within the garden, there is a section reserved for Temple Harzion, Temple Emanual and Temple Solel. Each section has been dedicated by a rabbi. In addition, a wing of one of our mausoleums has been dedicated for Reform Jewish entombment. Of course, those who practice the Jewish faith are welcome to be buried in any part of our cemetery.
Notable burials
As you wander through the cemetery grounds, you may recognize a few names. Several celebrities are buried at Green Acres Cemetery, including an actor from The Wizard of Oz, an actor from The Little Rascals, a former Miss America and a professional wrestler.

History
Lisle and Ruth Hawkins and their sons moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, from Montana in 1957. With no prior experience in the cemetery business, they transformed 40 acres of farmland into a successful operation. Green Acres Cemetery was established in 1957 when Scottsdale was still a young town.
When the cemetery was being developed, David Hawkins created the water fountain in the Garden of Flowers. To this day, the fountain is lit at night. Before Scottsdale was fully developed, it could be seen from miles away.
The funeral home was added in 1962, giving Arizona its first funeral home–cemetery combination.
Ahead of the times
Green Acres Cemetery is also home to the first nonvisitation mausoleum west of the Mississippi and the third in the United States. Built in 1973, it's called Peace Mausoleum. It was then followed by Heritage Mausoleum in 1980 and a third nonvisitation mausoleum named Serenity Mausoleum in 1995.
Honoring our legacy
Though Lisle died in 1998 and Ruth in 2006, their legacy lives on. They are entombed in a private space inside Heritage Mausoleum.
Today, Green Acres Mortuary and Cemetery is part of the Dignity Memorial® family of funeral, cremation and cemetery service providers, giving you the warm, familiar attention you expect from a locally operated establishment and benefits no other provider can offer.
