Stephen “Steve” Carl Fowler, 75, of Montpelier, passed away Saturday, May 11, 2024 at the University of Iowa Hospital with his family by his side. Visitation will be Friday, May 17, 2024 from 4-7pm at Weerts Funeral Home. Funeral service will be on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at 10am at Weerts Funeral Home; visitation will be from 9am until time of service. Burial will be at Davenport Memorial Park following the service.
Steve was born on October 4, 1948 in Davenport, Iowa to Carl and Laverne Fowler. He was a very smart man and went to work at an early age but still went on to earn his GED. He fell in love with Susan Graves and they were united in marriage on March 4, 1967. Steve started working with the railroad at an early age and went on to work as a meat cutter. He was co-founder of Steve’s Meat Shop.
Steve loved his friends and family dearly. He played just as hard as he worked. Steve never fully retired, as his job was fun and he loved making people happy with food. Steve was truly a friend to all he met.
He is survived by his son Michael (Patricia) Fowler; grandsons Stephen Fowler and Alexander Fowler; brothers Stanley (Tracy) Fowler, Marvin (Donna) Fowler; brothers and sisters in law: Chris Flick, Cathy (Jim) Graft, Keenan (Shelia) Graves, Patti (Eric) Deporter, Ted (Jessie) Graves, and Debbie (Dennis) Driscoll; many nieces and nephews; extended family Greg Fowler, Kevin Fowler, Pole barn family, Lester Lobdell, Obby Sindt, Danny Sindt, Lyle Sindt, Uncle Larry Sindt, Jamie Lobdell, and Tom Peterson.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan; parents; son Stephen Carl Fowler II; and his sister Marsha Cottrell.
