Fritz was a country boy, born in Farmington Michigan, where the family had a farm of primarily apple orchards. At the young age of 12, Fritz’s father suddenly passed away, leaving him the man of the house. Fritz tended to the farm, driving goods to the Detroit market in early mornings before school. He paid off the family farm and supported his mother.
At 18, Fritz was off to Naval Officers Training at Notre Dame. While he was completing college at University of Michigan, his life changed forever when he met the love of his life, Ruthellyn Clevenger. They married and raised 4 children together. They were best friends, being truly devoted to one another until her death. Fritz was her caregiver for 5 years, selflessly tending to her every need.
Fritz had a true spirit of adventure and embarked on many travels with Ruthellyn and children, ingraining in them a curiosity of the world and the people in it.
Fritz was deeply devoted to God. He was baptized at the age of 27, was a servant of Christ and a beloved member of many churches throughout his life. His current church family was Little River Methodist Church where he enjoyed many lasting friendships and the fellowship of his church family, also singing in the choir.
Fritz had a heart for caregivers and, along with others, led the Alzheimer’s Caregiver’s Support Group. Through this group he offered training, support and encouragement to caregivers of Alzheimer’s/Dementia sufferers. In his 80’s and 90’s he also provided respite care for two families.
Fritz credited his long, healthy life to being an avid walker, and eating very nutritiously, an interest he shared with Ruthellyn.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Little River Methodist Church of Woodstock, Georgia or the Alzheimer’s Association.
