Heaven became a brighter place and earth much dimmer with the passing of Michael M. “Mike” Lionetti on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. Born in Hartford on February 8, 1942, he was the son of the late Michael and Frances (Sylvester) Lionetti. Mike served three years in Germany in the U.S. Army. Mike owned and operated M. Lionetti & Sons Sewer Contractor and Construction. He also worked as a heavy equipment operator until he was 80 years old. He was a master carpenter, mechanic and Mike-of-all trades. Mike loved his Boston Red Sox, and was a huge fan of drag racing and NASCAR. His other love was his muscle car, a 1971 Chevelle, which was his pride and joy, going to many car shows over the years. He enjoyed listening to “oldie but goody” music. Mike was a devout Catholic and served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. John’s Church in Cromwell for many years. Mike was a man of integrity, a man you could count on, looked up to and well-respected. He was a gentleman and a gentle man who gave quiet guidance. A man of many trades and talents, he was always ready to help family and friends. He was peaceful and humble, which all of us who knew him can attest to. More than anything, Mike was devoted to his family and was happiest when surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
Mike leaves behind his loving wife and best friend of 60 years, JoAnne (DiBattisto) Lionetti; his two children, Michael Lionetti, Jr. and wife Tina and Lisa Rockefeller and husband Glynn and his five adored grandchildren who he loved so much, Glynn, Jr. and Devyn Rockefeller and Alanna, Gianna and Taia Lionetti. He loved telling them hilarious stories and practical jokes, talking about car racing and sports. He is also survived by three brothers, Joseph and wife Sandra, David and wife Diana and Thomas and wife Margaret; his sister-in-law, Jean DiBattisto, and many cousins, nephews and nieces, as well as many friends who he cherished. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Michael DiBattisto. Mike’s warm smile and genuine kindness endeared him to all who knew him and to all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. Mike’s friendships were a testament to his character.
