John was born on April 15, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa to Robert and Emily (Dillavou) Taylor. He married to the love of his life, Phyllis on July 4, 1952. They loved each other in ways most people can only dream of. John worked as a truck driver most of his life and was proud to say that he had travelled to every state in America except for Alaska and Hawaii. He loved camping in their RV. After retirement he and Phyllis loved traveling to Texas in the winter and camping at Jester Park in Granger, IA in the summer where he volunteered. His greatest joys in life were playing board and card games and you could usually find him at the table playing cribbage or dominoes. His motto always was “I play to win!”
John will be greatly missed by his wife of 71 years, Phyllis Jean Taylor; beloved dog, Bailey; children, Rick (Janelle) Taylor of Des Moines, IA, Cheryl Taylor of Jacksonville, AL, Kelly (Steve) Cron of Ladora, IA; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; one sister, Patricia (Raymond) Whitehurst of West Des Moines, IA. He is preceded in death by his parents and seven siblings.
