Karen is survived by her children Jessica, Scott and Patricia, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Family friends Claudia and Chris and Karen’s brother Donald, niece Delta, and nephew Donny supported Karen closely during her final period of illness, for which we will be forever grateful.
Karen was born in Saskatchewan and lived in several communities as her mother Thelma was a teacher in rural schools. Karen moved to Victoria in 1954. After raising her children, Karen volunteered extensively in the community, with notable examples being her long service for the CNIB, with Island Health in nursing home facilities, and with SENDIAL doing weekly grocery shopping for the elderly. She was a member of the charity Beta Sigma Phi for over 40 years and will be much missed by her sorority sisters. Karen was a trophy winning 5 pin and lawn bowler and during her later years she was a member of the Victoria Lawn Bowling Club making many friends and rivals along the way!
Karen loved travelling and visiting family and friends, making frequent family trips with her sister Shirley back to Saskatchewan, taking cruises with her sister-in-law Joan and friend Sharon, as well as travelling many times to visit her daughter Jessica and son in law Jose in England. She also travelled to Cuba, Singapore, and Vietnam.
There will be no service by request, but there will be a celebration of life in July.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation.
Finally, we would like to extend a massive thank you to all the care workers, nurses and doctors who supported mom.
