Dearly loved daughter of Madeline Russell and stepfather Bruce Russell of Bathurst, N.B., and Samuel Hayden and stepmother Debbie Hayden of Aylesford, N.S.
Beloved sister of Caroline Hayden and adored aunt of Zachary Shearman, both of Toronto.
Lorrie also leaves behind siblings Rick Hayden (Melissa) and Heidi Buchanan (Adam), both of Aylesford, N.S., and Kathryn Vignati (Joe) of Atlanta, Ga., as well as many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Lorrie was born in Berwick, N.S., and graduated with an honours degree in English from the University of King's College in 1982.
An avid reader, Lorrie loved words. She worked as a publicist for Oxford University Press in Toronto before heading to the West Coast. There, she worked as communications and development manager for Mount Pleasant Neighbourhood House and communications officer for the BC SPCA.
She also enjoyed music, art and genealogy and was an enthusiastic shutterbug.
Lorrie loved nature and was at her happiest exploring the woods, the mountains and favourite places such as Jericho Beach in Vancouver. She was always drawn to the ocean, Atlantic or Pacific, and found peace there.
She was a longtime member of the Vancouver LGBTQ+ choir Out In Harmony, along with many other arts and social groups in Vancouver and Toronto.
Lorrie will be deeply missed by her friends and family members, and remembered for her quick wit, her jovial sense of humour and her adventurous, independent spirit.
Visitation will take place on Friday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at Glenhaven Memorial Chapel in Vancouver, with cremation to follow.
A celebration of Lorrie's life will be held at Locarno Beach on Wednesday, May 8, from 5 p.m. until sunset. A gathering is also being planned for Lorrie's Toronto friends, to be held at a later date.
A graveside service will take place at the cemetery in Berwick, N.S., in the summer.
