We are sad to announce the passing of Norma Jean (Corley) Heck who was born on February 9, 1931 in Junior, West Virginia to Henry Jackson and Pet Corley (Cade). As a child she grew up in Belington, West Virginia on a working farm that she loved and later, moved to the city of Fairmont with her mother to start new adventures. There she met and married Edwin Ancel Heck on September 9, 1949 and moved to Virginia to start a family. They finally settled in Springfield, for over 60 years, where they raised three girls – Laura, Rebecca, and Brenda.
Norma lived her entire life devoted God, family, and Country. She balanced a professional career in the building industry with a lifetime of service to the public school system as a PTA president, member of the advisory board for the Division of Children, a delegate to the 1976 Democratic National Convention, and chairwoman of the Annadale District Committee. She also served faithfully for several decades on the North Springfield Civic Association in multiple roles. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her entire family at their lake home on summer holidays, especially Memorial Day and July 4th.
Norma is survived by all her daughters, 5 grandchildren – David Mistretta Jr., Ryan Mistretta, Scott McLemore, Lauren McLemore, Henry McLemore, and 3 great grandchildren – David Mistretta III, Myra Rose Mistretta, Sophia Marie Mistretta.
A visitation for Norma will be held Monday, May 15, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Demaine Funeral Home, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM, 5308 Backlick Road, Springfield, VA 22151. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at National Memorial Park, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042.
