Elouise Meadows Blalock, 87, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, April 28, 2024. Elouise was born in Goldonna, Louisiana, on September 20, 1936, to Jack and Cleo Meadows. She graduated from Goldonna High School after her basketball team won the state championship in 1954. Elouise married the love of her life, Joseph “Joe” Rogers Blalock, Jr., on May 31, 1958, at the Barksdale Air Force Base Chapel, in Louisiana.
Elouise loved to travel the world with Joe. She and Joe were stationed at many Air Force Bases, but her favorite was at Alconbury AFB in England. That is where she and Joe became parents to Kevin and Vicki, the other two loves of her life. She was the kind of mother who showed unconditional love and support, without fail. She was totally dedicated to her husband and her children, but showed love to the rest of her family, friends, and all those she met along the way. She took personal pride in her ability and desire to care for her father-in-law, her own mother, and her husband when they weren’t able to care for themselves. Without having a nursing degree, she had the knowledge and capability to put many licensed nurses to shame.
Joe’s military career took the family to Germany where Elouise was very involved with the Christian Servicemen’s Center, driving their VW van filled with the family and Airmen to church. She was a member of Life Church in Shreveport, Louisiana. Elouise shared God’s love and salvation with all she met. She was also a very good cook. Her recipes for Chili and Spaghetti have been passed on to her kids and grandkids. She loved animals, but her passion for obedience training dogs was evidenced by the many First Place trophies she received for showing her Pomeranians at American Kennel Club matches in California.
She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Cleo Meadows, her brothers Robert Meadows, Earl Meadows, and Ollie Drew Meadows. She is survived by her loving husband Joseph Blalock of Shreveport, son Kevin and Natalie Blalock of Shreveport, daughter Vicki and Eddie Blagg of Iowa Park, Texas, grandson Derrick and Evelyn Forrester of Wichita Falls, Texas, granddaughter Seana and Austin Smith of Ames, Iowa, grandson Marc and Sidnee Blagg of Iowa Park, granddaughter Amanda and Tyler Eaton of Wichita Falls, granddaughter Charlotte Capps of Silver City, New Mexico, and great-grandchildren Cody, Bailey Anne, Jackson, Max, and Lia Jane. Also precious to her were many nieces and nephews, who have come to help any time they were asked.
A special thank you to Dr. Jeremy Sutton for being so much more than a Physical Therapist.
Elouise was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
A visitation for Elouise will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 9:00 AM at Centuries Memorial Funeral Home, 8801 Mansfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana 71108, followed by a Celebration of Life at 10:00 AM. She will be laid to rest in Centuries Memorial Park.
