Dinh was born on November 10, 1933 to Cuong and Hien Nguyen in Hai Phong, Viet Nam. He had three brothers, Chien, Cung, and Xuong, and was the second oldest. All four brothers immigrated to the US after the fall of Saigon in 1975. They eventually resided near each other in southern California.
Growing up, Dinh attended various parochial schools within the Catholic parishes his family lived. When he was 17, his family left their hometown and moved to Ha Noi. His family moved again to southern Vietnam after the Geneva Accords split the country in 1954. Their hope was that by moving south, the family could avoid having to live under Communism.
As an adult, Dinh worked for the Department of Agriculture. He later married Ky Son Nguyen in 1961. After leaving Vietnam and resettling in the US, he became an electrician which he remained until he retired.
Dinh and Ky Son had six children, four girls and two boys. He enjoyed his time with his family, and he was well known for his speeches during large family gatherings. Before developing memory loss in his old age, Dinh’s most memorable experience was a pilgrimage to Jerusalem he made with his wife in 2013.
Dinh Van Nguyen returned to God on April 29, 2024. He passed away peacefully at home in Orange, California at the age of 90 with his wife by his side.
Dinh is survived by his wife Mary Ky Son Nguyen
