Dr. Wang graduated from the prestigious National Taiwan University in 1961 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He traveled to the United States for graduate school, where he graduated from Michigan State University with a Master’s degree. Dr. Wang then moved to Ithaca, NY where he earned a PhD in Civil Engineering at Cornell University in 1969. During this same year he also married the love of his life, Lung-Chu Sun.
In 1969 Dr. and Mrs. Wang moved to Lexington, Kentucky, where Dr. Wang became a professor of Civil Engineering at the University Of Kentucky. For decades, Dr. Wang was not only a professor, but also the Director of Graduate Studies for the Department of Civil Engineering. After a long teaching career, Dr. Wang designed his own home, and in 2007 retired from the University of Kentucky.
After his retirement, Dr. Wang enjoyed spending time outdoors. He enjoyed planting and cultivating his many fruit trees and flowers. Dr. Wang was very meticulous in his flower garden and landscaping projects around their home. He also enjoyed traveling with the love of his life. They explored many different countries, setting foot on six continents and cruising to several dozens of countries and even around the world. Dr. Wang was also an avid fisherman and loved watching and following the University of Kentucky’s basketball team. His favorite activity in retirement was being a grandfather to his beloved four grandchildren.
Dr. Wang showed unconditional love and support to his family and friends, always patient and kind to all those around him. He was an exemplary educator, friend, husband, father and grandfather.
Dr. Wang is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Lung-Chu Wang; his two sons and two daughters-in-law, Alan Wang and Eleanor Ho, Stephen Wang and Nicole Hong; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Benjamin Chao as well as his four grandchildren.
