Dave was a 1961 graduate of St. Clairsville High School where he excelled in academics and athletics as a pitcher for the varsity baseball team. He went on to The Ohio State University graduating in 1966 with a degree in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering and a commission in the United States Air Force. He furthered his education with a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Utah.
Dave proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 21 years in the Space and Missile Command where he was honored with many awards and recognitions and retired honorably in 1987. He then joined Lockheed Missile and Space Corporation and served as a Project Manager on various space programs for 15 years. Outside of work, Dave volunteered his time coaching youth soccer and baseball, instilling an appreciation for hard work and passion both on and off the field.
In 1962, Dave met the love of his life, Bobbie Sattler. They married in 1964 and began building a loving family with the addition of their daughter, Danielle and son, David. He is survived by his wife, Bobbie and children, Danielle (Tom) and David (Kristi), the apples of his eye, grandchildren; DJ (Liz) Sharkey, Savannah Sharkey, Nolan Sharkey, Dr. Thomas (Victoria) Mathis, U.S. Army 2nd Lt. Grace Mathis, and Jonathan Mathis, as well as his two kitties, Mocha and Milo. They all will dearly and deeply miss "Papa". Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Nancy (Steve) Vogel, Mary Ann (Jim) Stevenson and Pat Bearducci, and best friends, George and Phyllis Prior.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Sharkey, his sister-in-law, Jean Sharkey as well as his brother-in law, Paul Bearducci.
The family would like to extend their appreciation and gratitude to Dr. Richard Dohn for his compassionate care, and to the nurses and staff of the Plum Tree Care Center who cared for Dave during his extended stay with them.
Per Dave's wishes there will be no funeral or public services.
