We regret to announce the passing of Stephen "Steve" Paul Folks II. Steve passed away on April 30, 2024, at the age of 53, in San Diego, California. Stephen “Tree” was born in Streator, Illinois, and was a beloved husband, son, brother, and friend to many people. He lived in Las Vegas, NV, and later moved to Dallas, TX, where he met his husband, David. Later, they moved to San Diego, where Steve graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from the Design Institute of San Diego in 2000.
Steve had a successful career as an interior designer, which he pursued due to his love of design and talent. He worked at Ethan Allen and later moved to 3 Day Blinds, where he was highly regarded for his valuable contributions. Stephen's expertise in custom window treatments is remarkable, and he has significantly impacted the industry.
Steve was an exceptional individual whose influence extended far beyond his professional life. His vibrant personality and zest for life made him a beloved community member. He was passionate about travel, gardening, and cooking, which he shared with his loved ones and friends. Steve's warm and engaging personality was contagious, and he could bring joy and laughter to any gathering. His remarkable legacy lives on through the countless treasured memories he created and his positive impact on the lives of those who knew him.
Steve was preceded in death by his loving grandparents Clarence and Evelyn Folks and Lloyd and Lucille Kudrick.
Stephen is survived by his husband, David Humphrey; his mother, Denise Downey; his stepfather, Dave Downey; his father, Stephen Folks Sr.; his stepmother, Lorna Folks; his sisters, Sarah Downey and Chelsea Hinds; his brothers, Chase Folks and Kenneth Downey; his beloved dog, Twiggy; and a vast community of friends and colleagues.
A viewing will be held on May 9, 2024, from 4 PM to 8 PM at El Camino Memorial, at 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121.
A funeral service will be held on May 10 at 1 PM, preceded by a rosary at 12:30 PM, at St. Didacus Catholic Church, located at 4772 Felton St, San Diego, CA 92116.
The burial will follow the funeral service at El Camino Memorial Cemetery.
