David was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1935 in Boston, MA, to Winslow and Dorothy Morse. He grew up in Peterborough NH with his younger brother Calvin and carried a love of Peterborough for the rest of his life. After attending Phillips Exeter Academy, David attended MIT in Boston and earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Engineering and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. While at MIT, David met his future wife Frances Ford and the two moved to San Diego, CA in 1958 to start their new life together. David worked at General Atomic in La Jolla as a Nuclear Engineer and they were soon raising three young children together.
David had a lifelong interest in stock analysis which he turned into his own investment advisory business, Ford Investor Services, which he co-founded in 1970 with Fran. Ford created a high quality fundamental database of stock data for its institutional clients and developed an early equity analysis tool called EPIC. David and Fran ran Ford Investor Services until 2004 when they sold the business to Mergent.
David had a passion for history, poetry and literature, music (especially John Stewart and other folk music artists), tennis, the San Diego Chargers, world travel and the Alisal Guest Ranch in Santa Ynez, CA which the whole family has attended every year since 1971. David loved telling stories of his life and sharing photos and memories with those around him.
David was predeceased by his parents, his brother Calvin, and his dear childhood friend Roy Vezina. His memory will forever be held in the hearts of his surviving family: his wife Fran, his three children James, Robert and Susan; six grandchildren, Aubrey, Alec, Stephen, Amanda, Kathryn and Alec Ferry; and three great-grandchildren, Ford, Logan, and Trae.
A service to celebrate his life is scheduled for 10:00am on Saturday May 18, 2024 at El Camino Mortuary where he will be laid to rest. A reception will be held afterwards at El Camino Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations can be made to the Parkinson’s Foundation at www.parkinson.org
