Alex Pelayo Carpio was born on June 26, 1942 in Kalibo, Aklan on the island country of the Philippines. He was born during the backdrop of World War II. The 2nd oldest of 8 children, Alex was the oldest son to Lorenzo and Julita Carpio.
Alex enlisted in the US Navy on April 16, 1965. On June 15, 1969, he married Lerma Go in Quezon City, Philippines. The couple started their family in Norfolk, Virginia where their three daughters were born. Alex’s Naval career included serving during the Vietnam War and took him all around the world. He retired from the Navy on June 11, 1986, after 21 years of service for the country he was proud to call home.
Alex started his second career for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in August 1986, where he worked as a Food Service Supervisor. He retired from the Riverside Sheriff’s Department on January 2, 2003, after 16 years and 5 months of service. While working for the Sheriff’s Department, Alex attended Riverside Community College and earned his Associate Degree in Business Administration in January 1991.
Alex enjoyed traveling the world while he was in the Navy. His hobbies included fixing cars, gardening, fishing, singing karaoke, and cheering on his favorite team, the Los Angeles Lakers. What Alex loved the most was spending time with his family and being a grandpa. He was affectionately called “Lolo” (grandpa in Tagalog). He was known to always have a warm smile and a gentle demeanor.
After a long battle with congestive heart failure, Alex passed away of a heart attack on April 26, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. He is survived by his wife (Lerma), daughters (Alma, Aileen, and Angeline) and their husbands (Leonard, George, and Antoine), grandsons (Jelani, Kanoa, and Jordan), granddaughter (Kailaya), sisters (Henrietta and Merlin), and brothers (Edwin and Peter). He joins his faithfully departed parents (Lorenzo and Julita), sister (Evangeline), and brothers (Geronimo and Felinor).
