Gwen was born to George Busby and Ruby Lorene Evans on January 4th, 1932 in Refugio, TX. After marrying Kenneth Monroe Dowda on August 27th, 1956, she had two sons, Randall Scott Dowda and Michael Keith Dowda.
She is survived by her son, Michael Keith Dowda and his wife, Rebecca Ann Runnels Dowda, and granddaughter, Shelby Lynn Dowda. Gwen lived with them for over 22 years before passing at the age of 92. She was a huge blessing and loved helping to raise her granddaughter. Gwen possessed a servant’s spirit and loved to help her family by doing simple house chores and cooking dinners for them.
Gwen worked for USAA until her retirement after 40 years. She loved Jesus and enjoyed attending a ladies bible study group with her friends. She loved to talk or pray with people, always offering kind words, whether in person, over the phone or on Facebook. Her beautiful smile brought joy to many. Gwen loved God’s creations, mainly birds which she enjoyed watching and listening to. She also collected angels. Gwen was a member of Shearer Hills Baptist Church and loved to sing in the choir. She also attended River City Fellowship for many years where she touched many lives, always helping others whenever she could. Gwen was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. She will be greatly missed.
Gwen was preceded in death by her sister, Joyce Anderson, her brother-in-law, Eugene Anderson, her husband, Kenneth Dowda, and her son, Randall Dowda.
Visitation will be held at 8:00am, Thursday, May 9, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home, followed by a service at 9:00am. The service will be officiated by a long-time family friend, Pastor Billy Nuñez, accompanied by his wife, Angie Nuñez.

Donations can be made in memory of Gwen to either Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital or The Lymphoma and Leukemia Society, or any other charity of your choosing. The family would also like to extend their deepest gratitude to Chris Sitton and everyone at Hope Hospice for their support, kindness and prayers. The family also thanks Sunset Funeral Home for their guidance and support.
