Cecil Floyd Barnes, 85, of Mechanicsville, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024.
He was an employee of Leggitt & Myers Tobacco Co., Eastern Airline for 30 years, New Kent County and had side jobs of painting and home repairs for many people and small businesses in the area. He volunteered his time with the Cub Scouts, Varina Little League baseball and the 4H Club and was an honorary member of the Pamunkey River Garden Club. He loved fishing and hunting and telling stories about his life adventures. He also played a wicked game of Uno.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann M. Barnes; parents, Annie M. and Leonard G. Barnes; and sister, Carolyn B. Dennette. He is survived by his children, Rene Barnes Melton (Randy), Troy Barnes (Tammy Johnston) and Denise King (Garry); grandchildren, Chad Melton, Blake Melton, Travis Ward and Cooper Ward; great granddaughter, August Melton; and his back porch companion (cat) Captain Hook.
The family will receive friends Thursday, May 2, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 4650 S. Laburnum Ave., Richmond, VA 23231. A graveside service will be held Friday, May 3, at 11 a.m. at Washington Memorial Park. Online condolences may be made at www.nelsenrichmond.com.
