Dad was born on January 2, 1924 on the family farm near Holdfast, SK. He was one of 21 children, 5 of whom died in infancy. He farmed in the Holdfast area until 1965 when he moved his family to Regina. He worked mainly as a mechanic, and also co-owned an auto repair/truck topper manufacturing business, until his retirement in 1985. After his retirement, he operated a small engine repair business from his garage. He loved spending time tinkering away and visiting with neighbours, friends and relatives who would pop in on a regular basis.
He grew up in a home filled with music, and at 15 years of age, he picked up his brother’s saxophone and learned to play by ear. He was in a band for most of his adult life, and was still playing his horn until a few weeks ago.
Dad always looked forward to the regular Frohlick Family Reunions where he was treated like a rock star. Relatives both young and old were always eager to visit with him, and he enjoyed every minute of it. He and mom took many vacations with relatives to various destinations, including countless trips to other provinces to visit family. He loved to read about history and true stories, and would read the newspaper from front to back. Above all else, he loved spending time with his family.
He was kind, caring, generous, compassionate and funny. He always had a smile on his face, and could often be heard whistling a happy tune or cracking a joke with his infectious laugh. He was very social and was able to make friends anywhere, anytime. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus for 81 years, first with Holdfast council then with Father Burn’s Council #5949.
The family is thankful for the many friends he made at his home in Regina Village. We would also like to thank the staff of EMS, Emergency, Units 5A and 6A at the Regina General Hospital for the care dad received, as well as the staff at the Regina Lutheran Home where he spent a short time. Thank you to Father Okai, hospital Chaplains Jerry Fitzgerald, Jennifer Holtslander and Cliff Geiger for spiritual support. Also, a huge thank you to Dr. Stephen Bester and Shirley whose excellent care helped him reach his 100-year milestone. We would also like to thank Eileen Olson for the companionship and care she provided dad in the last several years, especially sharing his love of music.
Dad was an amazing father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He had a wonderful life filled with millions of cherished memories, and was very blessed at 100-years of age to have still been living independently and with good health. He will be missed immensely.
