Charlie Burgess McCuien, born on September 24, 1937, in New Madrid, Missouri, to Leo and Verdie McCuien, bid farewell to this world on April 23, 2024, at the age of 86. Charlie's journey was marked by love, dedication, and a profound commitment to family.
He was the cherished husband of Forestine, sharing decades of love and companionship. As a father, Charlie leaves behind a legacy of warmth and guidance, survived by his children Charlie McCuien Jr., John McCuien, Jessica McCuien, as well as his stepchildren Percy Scott and Curtessa Scott. His heart overflowed with pride for his grandchildren: Wynter Calloway, Stacia Scott, Kadence Ferenczi, Devin Ferenczi, Isaiah Scott, Andre Scott, and Darren Scott.
Charlie was raised surrounded by a large family of 19 brothers and sisters, and is preceded in death by Lewis, Anette, Joseph, Fletcher, Philip, Virginia, Hilda "Acela", Joyce, Barbara and Sacherus. he is survived by Ernest (Vicki), Stanley, Freddie (james) Owens, Patsy, Janette, Benson, Jerry (brenda), Doretha and Leo as well as countless nephews and nieces, each touched by his kindness and wisdom.
Educated at Ecorse High School, Class of 1956, Charlie pursued further learning, earning an associate's degree from Oakland Community College. Before obtaining his degree, Charlie served his country honorably during the Korean War. He took pride in being a United States Army Veteran. Charlie was a man of versatility, sharing his knowledge with anyone he met. His Graphic Arts training allowed him to assist doctors in the design of the pacer for the heart transplant operation. He also served as a math teacher for adult education classes and ensuring the safety of students as a school bus driver for the Southfield Public School district. His professional journey culminated at Wayne State University, where he retired as an assistant custodial superintendent, leaving a lasting impact on the university community.
Beyond his professional achievements, he was a master of design, whether it be for leisure, architecture or automobiles. He designed and helped to construct Forestine's dream home in Las Vegas and was recognized by former Vice president Humphrey for his interior and exterior Stylistic contributions to clay modeling in automotive design of Chrysler prototypes. His achievements and impact on the communities he served will stand as testaments to his skill and passion.
As we bid farewell to Charlie Burgess McCuien, we hold onto cherished memories, knowing that his spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who were touched by his love and kindness. May he rest in eternal peace, surrounded by the beauty of the nature he so dearly loved.
A memorial gathering for Charlie will be held Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Harry J Will Funeral Home, 25450 Plymouth Rd., Redford, Michigan 48239, followed by a celebration of life service at 1:00 PM.
