On May 2, 2024, Vicars Lynn Childers McKinney, loving wife and mother of two, peacefully passed away at the age of 69. Surviving her death is Harry Lee McKinney Jr., loving husband of 48 years, and her children Mary Ellene McKinney; HK McKinney and daughter-in-law Rebecca Ann Morgan-McKinney. Also surviving are her mother, Ellene V Childers and special niece and nephew, Julie and John Simpkins. Vicky loved art since childhood. She attended the Harris School of Art in Frankin, TN, where she realized her call for painting portraits. She developed a 30-year career of portrait work which included judicial, medical, and private collection, along with years of independent study with various artists.
Vicky loved learning who the person was behind the face. This carried over into a calling to be a Stephen Minister where she served the Christ Church community faithfully for 11 years. She put her heart into everything she did. Her great light transcends this life and has carried into the next. The enormity of her presence will be matched with the enormity of her absence.
A celebration of her life will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, Raleigh, NC, at 1pm on Wednesday, May 8, followed by her burial at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.
For all who have been touched by Vicky’s warm light and hospitality, they are welcome to pay their respects at the family’s home on Tuesday, May 7, from 6-8pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and Raleigh Rescue Mission.
Arrangements are being provided by Brown-Wynne, 300 Saint Mary's St., Raleigh.
