Crawford's life was marked by dedication and love, first to his late wife Katherine "Katie" Shearer, with whom he shared over four decades of marriage, and later to his current wife, Nancy Shearer. Together with Katie, he raised a family that would be his pride and joy: Gladys (John) Chiarelli, Gregory (Susan) Shearer, Judy (Chuck Paulen) Smith, and Bruce (Anne) Shearer. His role as a grandfather to Jennifer Richards, Sean Shearer, Kimberly (Patrick) Papalas, Lindsey (Chris) Weglarz, Ashley (Roberto) Genna, Trevor Shearer and Colette (Don) Venning was one he cherished deeply. Crawford was also a doting great-grandfather to Luke, Brooke, Mason, Jordan, Corey, Lane, Alex, Jacob, Anthony, Joey, Sera and Allison and he had the joy of meeting his great-great-grandchildren Lillian and Vivian. His sister, Barbara (Dean) McCray, along with many nieces and nephews, will also hold his memory dear. Crawford was preceded in death by his parents, Patrick and Barbara, his siblings Patricia Glenday, Patrick Shearer, Jean Mancos, and Douglas Shearer, and his beloved dog, Snowball.
A proud World War II Army veteran, Crawford was a man of service and community, contributing as a member of the Masons, Kiwanis, VFW, American Legion, and Elks Lodge. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly as the owner of Shearer's Bakery in River Rouge, Michigan, for over 50 years, where he was known for both his delectable baked goods and his generous heart.
Crawford's zest for life was evident in his many interests. A musician at heart, he loved singing and dancing, often serenading friends and family with Frank Sinatra tunes while playing the keyboard. His competitive spirit came alive during games of poker, cards, and Scrabble, and he was an avid fan of watching "Wheel of Fortune" and "Jeopardy." His love for puzzles reflected his patient and methodical approach to life's challenges.
Described by those who knew him as loving, kind, and courageous, Crawford approached life with a gentle strength and a compassionate heart. His was a life lived with purpose and joy, touching the lives of many with his unwavering positivity and generous spirit.
