She was born on April 10, 1928, in Thomaston, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents Julius Gordon Crocker and Essie Luna McManus Crocker, her husband Frank Sheffield, her brother Gerald Crocker, and her eldest son Gary Sheffield.
Visitation will be Wednesday, May 1, 2024, from 4-6 pm at Southern Heritage Funeral Home and the funeral will be held at Shades Mountain Baptist Church Thursday, May 2, 2024, at 1 pm in the Conference Center.
She is survived by her son Dennis Sheffield (Peggy), and their daughters Katie Sheffield and Sara Sheffield (Cameron), her daughter-in-law Sandy Sheffield, and Gary and Sandy’s children Adam (Ashley), Abbey Northington (Lyle), Amanda Strassler (Eric), and Austin (Alyssa), and 5 great-grandchildren.
She was a longtime member of Shades Mountain Baptist Church and also worshiped with the fellowship at the Town Village Independent Living facility. She enjoyed bridge, bowling, and watching her cucumber and tomato plants grow in her garden.
She and her husband were members of the Friendship Force with whom they traveled extensively all over the world; they also hosted families in their home from many countries. Ruth and Frank enjoyed taking cruises.
Her family will always be thankful for the love she gave in so many ways.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts be made to Shades Mountain Baptist Church or Shady Grove Baptist Church, Lacey's Chapel.
