Ed, known to many as Buzz was born on September 22, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Edmund LaFere Latey, Jr. and Mary LaFawn Nebeker Latey; is the second of two children.
Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister, Janice Latey Wilson Stevens and son-in-law, William Everett Hadley
Ed is deeply loved and will always be an inspiration to his large posterity, including “the love of his life” wife of 60 years, Thuresa Gene Fox Latey, of Bellevue, NE; two sons, Mitchell Dean Latey (Suzanne) of Conway, TX, and Matthew Len Latey (Elizabeth) of Collegeville, PA; three daughters Michelle Renee Latey Broyles (Dan) of Spring Hill, KS, Malissa Mary Latey Roberts (Damien) and Malinda Latey Hadley, both of Bellevue, NE; an honorary son Anani Nador (Fortuney) of Bellevue, NE. And 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Ed is a veteran of the United States Air Force where he served as a Subsistence Operations Technician for 23 years. He managed AF commissaries at several bases. He also served with the Commissary Inspector General (IG) team supporting the mission all over the world. When he separated from the AF he returned to serve at the Offutt AFB commissary within Civil Services as a Commissary Officer until he retired.
He was a man of faith and love, valiant in the cause of the Lord Jesus Christ, and a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and good friend. His greatest work and desire was to assist in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Winter Quarters Temple, serving 18 years as an ordinance worker. The temple meant to him, bringing families together. Families are forever he would say, and the joy in his life. When surrounded by family near the end of his life with tears in his eyes he looked into our faces and said, “I am a blessed man, a blessed man.”
We are a blessed family because of him.
