Mary Jean Call (Marks) lived a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication to her family and community. She was born on November 29, 1928, and passed away on April 29, 2024, at the age of 95 in Kansas City, Missouri.
Jean was born in West Allis, Wisconsin to Mary and John Marks and was the youngest of five children. She attended Cardinal Stritch until she met her beloved husband and love of her life, William (Bill) Call. Jean and Bill were married on January 6, 1951. The first five of their seven children were born and raised in Wayne, Pennsylvania until Bill's Allis Chalmer’s job brought them to Prairie Village, Kansas where they had two more children.
All of Jean's children attended St. Ann grade school and Bishop Miege high school. Jean was a proud mother of many college graduates from the Washburn, Kansas State, University of Kansas, and University of Tennessee.
Jean, known for her caring and loving nature was described as "one of the nicest people" by those who knew her with a great sense of humor and a bonus Mom to many. She worked at Menorah Hospital for many years and volunteered at Menorah after her retirement. Her hobbies included traveling, sewing, quilting, swimming, bridge, dog sitting, book club, and rooting for her Chiefs and Royals. She loved visiting her children and grandchildren all over the country.
Jean leaves behind her children Daniel (Katherine), Mary, Susan (Bill), Elizabeth (Dave), Maureen, Tom, and her son-in-law Rich Lennartz . Her grandchildren Natasha (Ryan), Dominique (Randy), Sean (Clare) Leslie, Ben (Kelly), Sarah (Joe), Catie (Tyson), Amy, Robert, Erin, Shane, Austin (Tia), and Colin (Taylor). Her great grandchildren: Shane, Keaton, Christian, Isabella, Hans, Miles, Hugo, Dominic, Brody, Charlotte, Henry, Campbell, Vivienne and James.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her daughter, Cathy Call Lennartz; son-in-law Paul Hepworth; grandson, Shane Hepworth; great granddaughter, Nora Williams; her parents and her siblings.
Visitation will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church, 7231 Mission Rd, Prairie Village, KS 66208 on June 29th from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m., followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be provided following the Mass in the Parish Hall. Jean's legacy of love and kindness will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
