Paul Harrison Shilling, of Ladson, SC, departed this world on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion. He was born on October 22, 1937, in Lewistown, PA, to the late Charles and Agnes Shilling.
Paul's life was a testament to enduring love and commitment. He shared 65 beautiful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Gay Marie Shilling, whom he wed on August 16, 1959. Their union was blessed with two children, Todd Shilling and Christine Jones (John), who were the pride and joy of his life. Paul also leaves behind a rich tapestry of family, including his cherished granddaughters, Jennifer Nicole Wiggins (Brett) and Caitlyn Marie Jones, along with four great-grandchildren: Savannah, Lacy, Brody, and Hal. He is also survived by his brother, Karl Shilling, and sister, Phyllis Migilore, both of Pennsylvania, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Paul dedicated 24 honorable years of service to the United States Navy, achieving the rank of E7 as a machinist mate Chief. His commitment to service extended beyond his military career, as he later worked tirelessly as an HVAC mechanic for the Charleston County School District, retiring after over 20 years of dedicated service. Outside of work, Paul found solace and joy in his hobbies. He was an avid hunter and took great pride in his vegetable garden. His affection for dogs was evident to all who knew him. Beyond his hobbies, Paul embodied the qualities of a true patriarch, serving as a role model and father figure to many. He approached life with a gentle spirit, always prioritizing the well-being of his family.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects and celebrate Paul's life at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, May 4, 2024. Visitation hours will be held from 10am until 11am, followed by a heartfelt celebration of life chapel service at 11am. Paul will then be laid to rest at Carolina Memorial Park, with military honors rendering a final salute to his years of dedicated service to his country.
His spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his legacy will continue to inspire generations to come.
