Joyce Elaine McElhany Pitt, 85, went to be in the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. She was born to Nealie Carvie McElhany and Annie Mae Martin McElhany on June 6, 1938 in Mobile, Alabama. Joyce worked at Regions Bank in General Services for 24 years, and retired in 2001. She was a member of Fulton Road Baptist Church, and attended Cottage Hill Baptist Church with her daughter. Joyce enjoyed her Bible Study Fellowship Classes, watching and supporting her family, playing sports, going to lunch with her church friends on Wednesdays, flowers, cooking for her family, quoting bible verses, and serving the Lord. She also enjoyed watching Alabama football and Atlanta Braves baseball.
Joyce was a dedicated mother, who took care of her special needs daughter and two children. She was part of the Mother’s Volunteer Group at MARC. She spread God’s word through quoting scripture to family, sending cards, and her daily walk. Joyce always had a sweet spirit, and always wanted everyone to love one another.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin J. Pitt, Sr.; parents, Nealie and Annie Mae McElhany; two brothers; two sisters; son-in-law, David A. Brenes; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her daughters, Tina Pitt and Regina Brenes; one son, Joseph (Patty) Pitt; grandchildren, Tyler (Kate) Brenes, Riley (Bethany) Brenes, Carter (Sarah) Williams, and Ethan Williams; great-grandchildren: Maggie, Cameran, and Sadie Brenes, Odessa and Noak Brenes, Hudson Williams; three sisters, Anne (Earl) Lowery, Gloria Ward, and Patsy (Charles) Kramer; one brother-in-law, Sonny Vickers; two sisters-in-law, Sue Pitt and Doris Pitt; as well as several nieces, nephews, and other cherished family and friends.
The family would like to say a special thank you to: Dr. Jonathan Cole, and the staff at Nephrology Associates, for their years of service; Fresenius Dialysis Center, for their support and encouragement; and SAAD’s Hospice Retreat nurses and staff, for their compassion and support with Joyce transitioning to heaven. They would also like to extend the utmost gratitude to all the family and friends for their love, support, and prayers.
Visitation for Joyce will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2024 at Pine Crest Funeral Home on Dauphin Island Parkway in Mobile, with a chapel service immediately following.
Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery. Rev. Art Burroughs will be presiding over services, and active pallbearers include Tyler Brenes, Cam Brenes, Ryder Lowery, Trent Lowery, Lee Ward, Ethan Williams, and Carter Williams. Serving as honorary are Brad Pitt, Kenny Pitt, Bobby Sjolander, Kevin Lowery, Phil Bradley, and Earl Lowery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Fulton Road Baptist Church or Cottage Hill Baptist Church.
In honor of celebrating Joyce’s life, the family asks that you wear joyous colors to services.
