Georges Bury
November 13, 1950 - April 26, 2024
Georges Bury was born on November 13, 1950 in Haiti, the youngest child of Olga Bury (nee Lamarre) and Georges Ayas Bury. Georges transitioned to his eternal home on Friday, April 26, 2024 in Miami and is survived by his two siblings, Yanick Bury (Perodin) and Gardy Bury. The three enjoyed several wonderful childhood memories in their hometown of Cavaillon.
Georges started school at Les Freres du Sacre Coeur in Les Cayes, continued at Lycee Antenor Firmin and graduated with an accounting degree from Ecole de Commerce Julien Craan in Haiti.
In Haiti, Georges met his childhood sweetheart, Marie Myrtha Gourgue and they have been inseparable since. They then immigrated to New York in the 1970s where they lived for a few years before settling in Miami. The two enjoyed numerous heart-warming memories including many vacations in Europe. In Miami, Georges and Marie Myrtha raised their three children: Stanley Bury (wife Lorena), Jenny Bury, and Ashley Helene Bury (Bishop), where they continued to enjoy many happy family memories. Georges worked for 35 years for Miami-Dade County in Graphic Management and later on became a supervisor for the department.
Georges’ favorite role was that of a grandfather. He treasured his time with his grandchildren (Brianna Marie Bury, Richard Edward Bishop Jr.,Tatianna Bury, Amari Georges Bishop, Aaliyah Marie Bishop, Gianna Bury, Anastasia Rojas, and Carolina Rojas) and loved being their “Papa.” Georges never failed to be there for milestone moments and achievements like honor roll, church plays, graduations, recitals, and weddings.
Georges, his friends and extended church family were practically inseparable throughout his life. Georges served at Upper Room Assembly of God as an usher and later a Deacon for several years, devoting his time and energy to his strong faith.
Everyone who knew Georges knows of his love of music, travel, and his family. Georges will always be remembered for his love and dedication. We couldn’t have asked for a better husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, grandparent, and friend, his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him. He will be missed by his wife of 49 years, his children, grandchildren, relatives, friends and all the people that had the opportunity to know him.
