Jerry was born on September 2, 1933, to Raleigh and Mary Alice (Robbins) Shambrook in Roberts. He graduated from Roberts-Thawville High School in 1951, and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. Jerry married Viola Louise Hein (deceased) on September 6, 1958. He was the proud father of three children: Kim Shambrook of Evanston, IL, John (Suzanne) Shambrook of Mesa, AZ and Tina (Dennis) Vaughn of Evanston, IL.
Early in his career, Jerry started his own business named Jerry Shambrook Trucking in Roberts. After selling this business, he worked at Custom Farm Services throughout Ford County and sold trucks and semi-trucks at Widmer Truck Sales in Paxton and Stahly Truck City in Champaign and Bloomington. In 1983, he once again opened his own business named Jerry Shambrook Truck Consignments in Roberts. Jerry and his wife Viola owned and operated The Lickety-Split in Roberts for many years. In addition, he holds a U.S patent for “THE IT” (EYE-T), a pendant.
Jerry lived on the family farm outside of Roberts for 49 years. In his later years, he moved to Mesa, Arizona where he met his fiancé, Betty Bouton. She survives.
Jerry enjoyed watching sports, especially the Chicago White Sox and the Chicago Bulls. He was an avid conversationalist who liked to garden, play Bingo and assemble puzzles. His greatest joy was being a grandfather to his five granddaughters: Kate Stuard (Kyle), Sarah Shambrook, Paige Vaughn-Patel (Raj), Peyton Vaughn and P.J. Vaughn, and his two great-grandchildren Violet and Teddy Stuard.
Jerry is preceded in death by his wife, parents, and two siblings, Ronald Shambrook and Phyllis Koss. His children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and sister, Marilyn Taflinger, survive. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Roberts.
Services are planned for Saturday, May 25 at 10:00 AM at Lyman Township Cemetery in Roberts.
