Renee Garretson Wells, 66, of Kanawha City, formerly of Montgomery, West Virginia, passed away at Hubbard House while in Hospice Care in Charleston. Just a few short weeks ago, she was diagnosed with early onset Dementia.
Renee was born in Montgomery, West Virginia to the late Elvin and Dolores Pitsenbarger Garretson.
Renee was a 1974 graduate of East Bank High School. She married Lawrence “Ray” Wells on April 19, 1975. The US Marine Corp would take them to places like Japan, California, North Carolina and many other destinations before returning home to Montgomery where they resided until 2013 when moving to Kanawha City.
Left to cherish her memory is her beloved husband, Ray, of 49 years. Her sister, Terry Proctor of Malden; niece, Sherry Simpson (Steve) of Kanawha City; and great-nephew Laden Mullins (Cara) of Poca; stepdaughter, Shelia (Donald) Schaible of St. Albans; stepson, Eddie Wells of Nitro; brothers-in-law, Cecil Wells of Umatilla, Florida and Stanley Wells of Youngstown, Ohio; and sister-in-law, Jeanie Kennedy also of Youngstown, Ohio. .
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant brother, Danny Lee; her stepson, Lawrence Ray Wells Jr.; brothers-in-law, Roger Proctor; her beloved cats, Morris and Sassy who appeared at their home as strays and became two of the most spoiled rotten cats ever.
Renee was a member of FOE519, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Charleston where she enjoyed decorating for all holidays and events.
As owners of Renee’s Scentsations in Montgomery she loved to spend time making candles and tarts, creating flower arrangements and being involved in her community and the Town of Montgomery. She loved driving her Limited Edition Z-28 Camaro they purchased new in 1992.
Funeral Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with Pastor Richard Thompson officiating. Burial will follow at Donel C. Kinnard Memorial State Veterans Cemetery, Dunbar.
A visitation with family and friends will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
