Charley Elvis Butler was born on September 23, 1939 in Wilkinson County to his parents, George Melvin and Lois Butler. However, for the majority of his life, he resided in Macon. He is a graduate of Lanier High School, attended UGA before earning his degree from Augusta College and a Master's degree from West Georgia College. Afterwards, he was employed by the University of Georgia where he met his wife of 52 years, Mary Drake Butler. They returned to Macon where he worked until retirement from Robins Air Force Base. Charley enjoyed golf, UGA football, telling and listening to stories, music, and in his retirement years his interests expanded to genealogy and travel.
He is survived by his wife Mary, son, Kyle B. Butler, daughter-in-law, Ronda, and grandson, Brannon. In addition he has two sisters, Joyce Drew and Mildred Shealy and a brother, Ronnie (Debbie), nephew, Corey (Kristi) as well as a great nephew and niece, Brooks and Sage.
After spending 84 years, Charley left his life on this earth on May, 2, 2024. His graveside service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Macon Memorial Park Cemetery with the Rev. Joe McDaniel officiating, followed by a reception for the family to greet friends at the funeral home.
