Known by his father as “Sonny” and others as “ Micky” in his hometown “jailer”was his handle in CB radio, Michael was born August 22nd, 1939, in Spencer, MA to Joseph and Rita Luszey. Resided there till 1969. He was the youngest of 3. He and his two sisters Dorothy Keyes and Harry & Ann Austin along with their parents lived on a farm on Jolicoeur Road in Spencer, MA. He worked both in a Kleven’s shoe Factory, and alongside his brother-in-law pouring Asphalt for Bill Keyes Asphalt before joining the Air Force in November 1956. He served for 4 years as an Air Policeman stationed in both Anchorage, AK and Paine Field, WA.
He met MaryAnne during his service and requested permission of his commanding officer to marry her. They were wed on October 16, 1959. They went on to have two children, Diane and Michael, Jr.
The family moved to Washington State from Massachusetts in 1969 to be closer to MaryAnne’s family. Michael began work at the Washington State Reformatory in 1969. Always trying to improve himself, while working at the reformatory and supporting a family, Michael enrolled in Everett Community College and received his bachelor’s degree from Central Washington University in 1978. He received many accolades during his career including Certificate of Appreciation from the Department of Social and Health Services for his 10 years of service, Appreciation for Outstanding Service to the Citizens of Washington State in August of 1999 for 30 years of service, and a second Appreciation for Outstanding Service in August of 2001 for 32 years of service. Michael retired from his position at the Correctional Facility in 2001.
Known for his contagious smile and his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone, Michael was a man that would give you the shirt of his back if you needed it. In his retirement years he became an avid golfer, fishing, he had a love for his Sports, a purchaser of large televisions and the owner of many new cars. His greatest enjoyment during this time was being a great grandpa or “pop pop.” He loved his family fiercely but his love for them was next level.
Michael loved his family. He loved them with his time and presence. He loved them with his support and actions. He was who he was so that he could be there for these friends and family that he was so very proud of. His example and impact was deep and profound and he will be greatly missed.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Rita Luszey and his in-laws Lyman and Eunice Goodman. He is survived by his wife MaryAnne Goodman Luszey, his sisters Dorothy Keyes and Harry & Ann Austin, his children Diane Tarantino, and Michael Luszey, Jr (Diana). His grandchildren Tara Cummings (Peter), Travis Luszey (Ashley), Austin Tarantino, and Breionna Tarantino. And his great grandchildren Tatum and Makena Cummings and Bodin Tarantino. Granddaughter Breionna with one on the way November of 2024.
A graveside service for Michael will be held Friday, May 17, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Purdy & Walters at Floral Hills, 409 Filbert Road, Lynnwood, WA 98036.
