D. Jean (Johnson) Miller 89 of Lubbock, formerly of Levelland, went to be with her Lord Thursday, May 2, 2024 with family by her side. Celebration of Life services will be held in the Neil Chapel at Carillon Senior Living center in Lubbock, on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at 10:00 AM.
Jean was born January 27, 1935 in Pampa, Texas to G.H. (Hub) Johnson and Marguerite Johnson. She grew up in Pampa, graduating from high school there in 1952. Jean attended McMurray College in Abilene, Texas and then married Charles W. (Charlie) Miller of Amarillo on August 10, 1956. They were soon blessed with two daughters: Diane (Miller) Button of Spicewood, Texas and Karen (Miller) Wells of Vacaville, California. Following a brief time in Lubbock, they settled in Levelland, Texas where they were members of First Methodist Church. After her girls had started school, Jean went to work for Levelland ISD in various roles. Twenty-two years later, she retired as registrar of Levelland High School. Jean was a highly accomplished seamstress and also loved to cross stich. She was also a wonderful baker, especially skilled with desserts and a wide variety of sweet treats. She and Charlie made quite an impressive team in the kitchen to the delight of everyone during holidays and family gatherings. Jean and Charlie were proud grandparents of five granddaughters who loved to come visit and raid Nana’s special candy drawer, learn to sew, work puzzles and just generally get spoiled. Many special memories were made over the years at their Levelland home.
Charlie, her husband of 62 years, precedes Jean in death. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy Johnson of Lubbock and by her children, Diane (Bob) and Karen (Mark) along with five granddaughters and seven great grandchildren. She is interred next to Charlie at the Levelland Cemetery. Jean’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the Carillon Assisted Living and Carillon Cares Staffs for the wonderful care and loving personal attention Jean received over the last few years.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the South Plains College Scholarship Fund or to the Carillon Foundation.
