We warmly invite you to join us in celebrating the life of Alice Martinez Serna, aged 65, from Shallowater, Texas. Alice was called to her heavenly home on May 1st, 2024, leaving from Lubbock. Her life was a testament to her deep faith and the joy she brought to others, and we know many of you have cherished stories of how she touched your lives. Her radiant smile and the love she shared will forever be remembered.
Alice was born in Houston, Texas, to Esteban and Janie Martinez, both of whom predeceased her. Raised in Lubbock, she was instilled with strong spiritual values from a young age. Alice’s journey through life was marked by her resilience and dedication to her faith, which she upheld through all trials.
A proud graduate of Lubbock High School in 1978, Alice’s career spanned several esteemed institutions, including West Texas Hospital, Canyon Lakes Residential Treatment Center, and Lubbock State Hospital. She was revered as a diligent and compassionate worker, always willing to go the extra mile for those in her care.Alice was a fervent advocate for the pro-life cause, standing alongside her lifelong best friend, Katy Hernandez. Together, they championed the rights of the unborn, their efforts marked by countless protests and prayers. Her influence extended to her family and beyond, as she guided her children, nieces, nephews, and many others towards a life of faith. Alice’s relationships were built on a foundation of truth and devotion to God’s glory. As an active member of St. Phillip Benizi Catholic Church, Alice served as President of Sociedades Guadalupanas, a ministry dedicated to the Holy Mother of God. Her leadership and charitable works were a beacon of inspiration, fostering growth and development within the church community.
Alice’s legacy is one of unwavering service to God and humanity. Her kindness, love, and prayerful spirit provided comfort to many and affirmed her commitment to a life of faith.
In the summer of '99, Alice married Hector Serna, who predeceased her. Their union was a testament to a Christ-centered life, filled with love, prayer, and service to others. They were a shining example of a godly family, spreading hope and encouragement to all they met.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the medical team at Covenant Medical Center for their exceptional care and compassion during Alice’s final days.
Alice is reunited in eternity with her parents, her brother Martin Martinez, her beloved husband Hector Serna, and her son Alejandro Sanchez.
She leaves behind a loving family: brothers Richard (Rebecca) Martinez of Lubbock, Jesse Martinez of Lubbock, sisters Guadalupe O. Martinez of Lubbock, Margaret (Jayme) Franco of Columbia, Janie (Dennis) Squire of Highland Utah, Ruben (Leslie) Martinez of Lubbock, Darlene Smith (Armando) of Orlando Florida, step-children Robert (Julie) of Houston, Lisa (Vashon) Serna of Lubbock, Sandii (Paul) Hiatt of Mapleton, Utah, Julie (Clint) Gray of Mapleton, Utah, Johnathon Serna of Lubbock, Andrew (Tiffany) Serna, Peter (Sunny) Serna of Virgina, and her cherished grandchildren Zachary and Kimberly Martinez of Lubbock, Exzaniel and Emmanual Ocon of San Antonio, Esmeriah Smith and Esy of Lubbock, Skylar and Lukas Sanchez of Albuquerque New Mexico. Including the many grandchildren her and Hecter shared and her great-granddaughter Everly Inciso of Lubbock.
