She was born Nov 13, 1957 in Chicago Illinois to Charles McAllister and Elsie (Wilson). Nancy pursued her passion for education and learning at Purdue University. She took so many art classes for fun, that she ended up with a double bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Fine Arts. She married her college sweetheart, Orville Roe, in 1983.
They moved to Kemmerer Wyoming, where their daughter Carly was born. After leaving Wyoming they settled in Northern Colorado where she taught at Platteville Elementary for 12 years, before they moved to Longmont. She finished her career teaching in St Vrain Valley School District at Lyons Elementary, where she taught for 14 years. She was a passionate teacher who went above and beyond to care for her students’ growth and well-being. Her classroom was filled with her art posters and signs. Nancy also gifted art pieces to other teachers, both in her school and her extended family. She retired after 35 years in education, having taught all grade levels from kindergarten to sixth grade.
Nancy adored elephants which featured in many art pieces, and she avidly followed several rescues and elephant preserves around the world. She realized one of her greatest wishes when she visited and cared for elephants at the Wilstem Wildlife Park. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust USA on her behalf.
Nancy loved her family deeply and was excitedly awaiting the arrival of her first grandchild by purchasing many books for them. She was preceded in death by her husband Orville, and her parents Charles and Elsie. She is survived by her daughter Carly (Nicholas) Sisco, and her siblings Janis (George) Hoehn, Robert (Rita) McAllister, and Kent (Christina) McAllister.
Family, friends, and others are invited to the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel, 326 Terry St, Longmont, CO 80501, at 10:30AM on Saturday, May 4th, to reminisce and honor the life of Nancy.
