John Joseph Galvin, 93, of North Myrtle Beach, formerly of Saddle Brook, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was the loving husband of Rosemary (Flad) Galvin. They were married for 68 years.
John was born on August 29, 1930, in Jersey City, New Jersey. Son of the late John A. and Marie (Cassidy) Galvin. He was a dedicated father to his five Sons and Daughters and loving Grandfather to 13 Grandchildren and Great Grandfather to 9.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. He spent his career as the Town Clerk and Planning Coordinator of both Saddle Brook, New Jersey, and Bloomfield, New Jersey. After moving to his new home in North Myrtle beach in 1996 gave his years of experience to the NMB Planning Commission.
He was an active member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Ancient Order of Hibernians Joseph McGarry Division I, Knights of Columbus Council 7122,
and American Legion Post 186 Little River. He was tireless in giving of his time and talents to these causes which he held dear.
John treasured the relationships he formed throughout his life. In addition to the many friendships he made since moving to North Myrtle Beach, he also held dear many friends from the “old neighborhood” in Saddle Brook along with Co Workers and friends from his time in the Municipal Offices in Bloomfield and an enduring friendship that goes as far back to is time in the Korean Conflict.
Visitation will be held from 3-5 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the Lee Funeral Home and Crematory, 11840 Hwy 90, Little River.
The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 1100 8th Ave. N., North Myrtle Beach SC.
In addition to his wife, John was a dedicated father survived by his children; John P. Galvin (Mary Beth) of Saddle Brook NJ, Daniel Galvin (Mary Kay) of Lincoln Park, NJ,
Julianne Raphael (Bill) of Shalotte, NC, Claire Lambariello (Michael) of Randolph NJ and Michael Galvin (Jennifer) of Fair Lawn, NJ, 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Galvin, a sister, Dolores Borelli and a Granddaughter Meghan Galvin.
