Gerald attended Lexington High School and continued his education at the University of South Carolina. Gerald was a kind and gentle man who loved his family dearly. He shared his wisdom and his sense of humor with those closest to him and was happiest at home surrounded by family.
After more than 30 years of service, Gerald retired from the Comptroller General’s Office as the Deputy Comptroller General in 2000. He was a member of the Lexington High School Hall of Fame for excellence in football, awarded the Order of the Silver Crescent by SC Governor Jim Hodges, and The Order of the Palmetto by SC Governor David Beasley.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald Burnett; and sister-in-law, Eva Sue Barnes. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mickey Ann Burnett; son, Ashley Burnett (Shannon); daughter, Mira Stogner (Scott); and his beloved grandchildren: Will Stogner, Alex Burnett, Abby Burnett, and Ben Stogner, all of Lexington, SC. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Martha Burnett; and brother-in-law, Edwin Barnes, along with two nieces and two nephews.
A funeral service will be held at St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church in Lexington, SC, on Sunday, May 5 at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Gilbert Baseball (Gilbert High School attn: Deana Keisler) or St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church.
