Emily Idelle “Crim” Shuler, 96, of West Columbia went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 1, 2024 and has been reunited with Tom, the love of her life for over 70 years. She was born on May 23, 1927 in Sandy Run to Minnie and Jim Crim and was predeceased by one sister and two brothers.
Surviving is one sister, Gertrude Corley (Robert) of Lexington, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was a graduate of St. Matthews High School and secured a position at Saconee Sewing Room immediately following graduation. After her children were born, she stopped work to stay home.
Emily, also referred to as MaMa, will be forever remembered and cherished by her children, Henrietta Shuler of West Columbia, and Dianne Wise (Don) of Orangeburg; grandson, Michael Wise (Jennifer) of Columbia; and three precious great-grandchildren, Walt, Evers, and Ibbie Wise of Columbia. Emily was a loving Christian wife, mother, and grandmother who always put the needs of others above her own.
God was first in Emily’s life. She was an outstanding seamstress and an excellent cook known for her pound cakes, fruit cakes, and sweet potato soufflé. She was a faithful encourager and friend during good and bad times, felt a deep passion for helping seniors, crocheted numerous afghans and made quilts to share. She also enjoyed watching her flowers thrive.
She was an active member at Broadacres Baptist Church in Cayce and one of the founders of the Super Seniors monthly program, which she continued to be a part of until her death. Nothing made her happier than picking up a few ladies from church and taking them to visit shut-ins, writing cards, hosting fellowships and baby/wedding showers in her home, or taking a home cooked meal to someone.
You are invited to join us in celebrating her legacy of faith, love, and perseverance that she leaves behind. A visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM on Monday, May 6, 2024 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home – West Columbia Chapel, 820 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170. A celebration of life will follow at 11:00 am with burial to take place after the services at Southland Memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to Broadacres Baptist Church at 2350 Taylor Road, Cayce, SC 29033.
