Phillip Don Ferraro, age 81, of Las Vegas, Nevada, expired peacefully on Friday, May 3rd, 2024. He was born on April 22nd, 1943, at the Queen of Angels Hospital, in the City of Angels, Los Angeles California. Phillip was and forever will be a loving Husband, Father, and Friend. He will be remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, faith, and his unwavering dedication to his wife and family.
When he was a child, he loved traveling and having BIG family get-togethers with his parents Dominic and Frances. Being Italian, love of family and food was instilled in him from a very young age. Boy, did he love to eat! Some of his favorites were the Ferraro family’s raviolis and pasta with meat sauce. No restaurant could top homemade cooking!
After high school, he followed in the footsteps of his father and went into the United States Military. Phillip served our Great Nation in Army intelligence for 6 years and made sure that those who required security clearance, obtained it. In the service, he was known to be a “sharpshooter” with his .45 (1911) in 1968 and a “marksman” with his M-1 rifle in 1969.
The name Phillip is not only biblical, but it means, “lover or friend of horses.” And how he loved watching horse racing! After Phillip was honorably discharged from the service, he was faced with one of the toughest decisions of his life… Buy a race horse with one of his best friends, or marry the love of his life whom he met working at Sears. HINT: He didn’t choose the race horse…
Phillip and the love of his life Leona got married on March 9th, 1969. They had two sons, Darin and Don. He loved watching baseball, horse racing and movies with his family. His favorite was Grease, the movie and soundtrack. Some of his other favorite things were singing along to music in the car, talking politics and writing letters to the local newspapers. In the early 1990s, Phillip and Leona moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. They were here over 30 years together, where they lived out the rest of their lives with love and laughter.
Phillip is preceded in death by his wife, Leona, his sister Catherine and parents, Dominic and Frances Ferraro.
He is survived by his two sons and their spouses, Darin Ferraro / Natasha Sanchez and Don / Kimberly Ferraro. Phillip is survived by his 4 grandchildren, Jessica, Koa, Kai, and Reve Ferraro.
Words cannot describe what a wonderful man Phillip was. He could change your life with a few words or even a smile. May he rest in peace in paradise with his wife and the other members of the Ferraro family.
Services will be held at the Palm Northwest Mortuary in Las Vegas, Nevada on June 7th 2024 at noon.
