Oralia “Lottie” Medina Myers passed away at the age of 85 in Lakeway, Texas, on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on June 22, 1938, to Gilberto and Carmen Medina. She lived the majority of her life in San Antonio, where she graduated from Providence High School and attended Our Lady of the Lake University.
As the second youngest of 8, Lottie lived at home with her parents until she met and married Herbie D. Myers. Lottie worked in the Crypto Office at Fort Sam Houston as a Teletypist where Herbie was stationed as an MP (Military Police). Assigned to Frankfurt, Germany by the military, Herbie and Lottie spent almost 3 years in Frankfurt, welcoming the birth of two of their daughters, June and Stacey. Always family-oriented, once discharged, Lottie and Herbie moved back to San Antonio, where a few years later, they had their 3rd daughter, Marynell. Lottie often referred to Marynell as her “Luxury baby” because she was born in a civilian hospital. Lottie returned to civil service, as a Contract Specialist and then a Contract Officer at Audey L. Murphy Veteran’s Administration Hospital. In 1994, she retired from Fort Sam Houston as a Contract Specialist having achieved a GS12. Shortly after retirement, Lottie reentered the workforce again as a Contract Administrator at Calson Wagonlit, Government/Military Division. Lottie retired a second time thirteen years later. Lottie moved from San Antonio to Lakeway, Texas 5 years ago. She always said, “I want to be with my girls.”
A lifelong practicing Catholic, Lottie was devoted to her faith. She preferred her Saturday 5pm Mass. As she said, “It’s the only other Mass that counts for Sunday.” Lottie would never miss a Holy Day of Obligation. And it didn’t matter if we were on vacation, we found a Catholic church no matter where we were.
Lottie was also devoted to her family and many friends whom she held dear. She spent countless days helping anyone who was in need. From providing rides, to assisting in convalescing, to just being there as moral support, Lottie would help in any way she could. Oralia, Lottie, Daughter, Sister, Mother, Aunt, Cousin, GMA (Grandmother), GiGi (Great-Grandmother) or Friend; however you knew her… rest assured, she loved you! And she would do anything for you. Lottie was selfless and did everything with a loving heart.
