BURKARD: Ben. It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Ben Burkard of Kelowna, BC on April 29, 2024 at the age of 75 years, surrounded by close family and friends whom he loved. Ben will be forever remembered by his wife Gudrun of 54 years, son Brian, daughter Angela (Heath), and four loving grandchildren Erayna, Jayda, Payton and Kian. Also survived by his sister Anita & family
Ben was an elementary school teacher for 35 years. He took great pride helping students achieve their goals and reach their full potential, a quality Ben himself lived by. He had an admirable work ethic and always encouraged others to apply themselves and be the best they can be no matter the challenge. “It’s not a matter of how smart you are but rather how hard you try” Ben’s immeasurable ability to learn was one of his many great qualities. He rarely shied away from an opportunity to learn and/or experience something new, in fact, he welcomed it. He had a grand curiosity that allowed him to be a man of many skills and talents. Including being a catcher on the local major men’s fastball team, alongside his son, Brian, who was their bat boy.
He was a self-taught carpenter and talented artist. Ben enjoyed spending countless hours in his workshop creating pens, golf clubs, furniture and his stunning wood intarsia. He also loved to paint, draw and sketch. His beautiful creations will continue to be some of his family and close friends most cherished treasures. If Ben wasn’t working on a project, he was out enjoying a round of golf with his buddies. Ben had a profound impact on the lives of those around him. His personal connections were undoubtedly a source of immense happiness and fulfillment for him. He was a loving husband, incredible father, grandfather and an outstanding friend. Ben provided love, support and guidance to his children and grandchildren. He adored his grandchildren and took great joy in watching them grow and thrive. He always wanted the best for those most important to him. Even in the end, Ben exemplified integrity, strength and bravery. With help from those who had the pleasure of knowing him and loving him, may his profound mind, soul and legacy live on for years to come.
As per Ben’s request, there will be no service.
