Carl Boydston was born May 1, 1931 in Independence, Missouri to Nathaniel and Maude Boydston. He grew up in a loving home with brothers Bob, Gale and Dale.
He was always a gentle soul, patient, and positive. He credited his mother for showing him what it was to be loved—his loving spirit is with us today.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war in Germany and was licensed to operate Department of Defense vehicles from 1952 to 1954 and continued to serve in the Reserves until 1960.
He returned to the Kansas City Area and was employed by the REA Express and worked for the railroad.
Carl went on to see the entire country many times over as a truck driver. He was employed by trucking companies until 1984. He then bought his own rig went out on his own, and continued to drive across country until retiring in 1993.
He met and married Donnabel Dalzell and cherished her and their life together. Although he enjoyed his time on the road, he was always glad to be home. He asked God to keep him safe on every trip so that he would be able to come home to Donna.
He was a lifelong learner. Every night, he read from his book of scriptures. After retirement became an avid checker player on the computer. He was also a life-long Chiefs and Royals fan.
The highlight of Carl’s week, for decades, was Friday evenings with his brothers and sisters-in-laws, and cousins—they would share dinner, visit, and play SkipBo. These evenings were full of fun, laughter and simply being together. As one of the last of his generation, he kept the tradition going strong, as recently as January with his cousin Kitty, his niece Christa and her boyfriend Phil.
Carl was also generous, and spent his life giving to others. Whether it be a kind word, a listening ear, a ride to anywhere or a donation to a worthy cause—Carl could always be counted on.
Carl was a kind and gentle man. His quiet decency and deep spirituality was admired and will be missed by all those who knew him and called him uncle, cousin, friend and neighbor. To truly know Carl was to be touched by him. He will forever live on in the hearts and spirits of those who survive him.
He was preceded in death by his wife Donnabel, brothers Robert Boydston and wife Norma, Dale Boydston and wife Elaine, Gale Boydston and wife Norma, and cousins Marvin and Joe Burton.
Survivors include nieces Christa, Cathy, Candy, and Lori Boydston, nephews Jim and Russ Boydston, cousin Kitty Burton, many great nieces and nephews, and many other loved ones.
