On May 4, 2024, Billy Dale Graves, age 83, of Clinton, Mississippi passed away peacefully to be with the Lord. Billy was born in Marion County, MS on September 9, 1940 to Dewey and Claudine Graves. Billy will join his parents and brother, Bobby, who preceded him in death.
Billy graduated from Bunker Hill High School as valedictorian and went on to pursue a degree in Physics at Mississippi State University, ultimately receiving his PhD in 1973. While in college he began his military career as a ROTC cadet rising to the rank of Captain in the US Army serving in both Korea and Vietnam. Billy was a dedicated professor at Hinds Community College for over 33 years impacting numerous lives during his career. He prioritized God, his family, country and academics. He was a member of Morrison Heights Baptist Church for 45 years serving as a deacon, teacher and on numerous committees.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Sue Bryant Graves, brother, Jerry Graves (Linda), his 2 daughters: Lauren Graves Weems (Gene) and Katherine Graves Chenevert (Scott) and their five grandchildren: Shelby Weems Bailey (Corey), Adam Nicholas Weems, Madeleine Marie Chenevert, Callie Rose Chenevert, and Annabelle Scott Chenevert and his great-grandson: Benaiah James Bailey.
The family welcomes friends to a visitation at Morrison Heights Baptist Church 3000 Hampstead Blvd, Clinton, Mississippi on Friday, May 10, 2024 beginning at 9:00 am to be followed by a celebration of life at 10:30 am and burial with Military Honors at Bunker Hill Memorial Cemetery in Columbia, MS.
In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation to Morrison Heights Baptist Church.
