Obituary of Kenneth M. Williams
Kenneth M. Williams, 74, of Tipton, passed away on the evening of May 4th, 2024, at his home in the loving arms of his wife, Diane James. Ken was born November 5th, 1949 in Berwyn, IL to Edwin K. (Sr.) and Mary R. (O’Neil) Williams. He was raised on the North Side of Indianapolis and attended Brebeuf High School before moving on to Indiana University in Bloomington. Ken started a successful freight forwarding business in Louisville and later expanded his business to Baltimore, MD. At the age of 38, Ken opted for a new career as an attorney and enrolled at Widener School of Law in Harrisburg, PA. He received his Juris Doctor in 1992, and joined a large local law firm in Westminster, MD before going into private practice in 2007. Ken continued to practice law, to some degree, for the rest of his life. While he was good at his business and then at law, Ken excelled at enjoying life! Early on he had a love of motorcycles, which lasted most his life. He loved fishing, playing guitar, and doing anything his grandsons wanted him to do! He also loved animals, at one time or another having; dogs, cats, horses, and at one point, a parrot! Eventually he realized there was someplace he’d rather be, and moved to Dominical, Costa Rica. There he continued to work, taking calls while wearing flip flops and overlooking the jungle out towards the Pacific Ocean. He enjoyed his time working down there, making friends among his fellow Ex-Pats, commuting to see family and friends. To his delight, eventually Diane was able to join him full time in the jungle. They spent their days together exploring beaches, hanging out with friends, working on little projects, and learning to manage the demands of open-air, jungle life. Ken would frequently venture away from paradise to visit family across the US, enjoying the best of whatever the location had to offer. When his sons lived in Oregon, his trips were strategically planned to coincide with the spring and fall salmon runs. When his sons moved back to Indianapolis, considerations were made for what concerts he could catch with them on a visit. He loved time with his grandkids most of all. Whatever they wanted to do was cool by Grandpa Ken. Playing guitar, seeing movies, showing up to school concerts and art shows whenever possible. He loved being with them and they loved their time with him. In addition to his parents, Ken was also preceded in death by his son, Bradley Williams, dear sisters, Melissa Wiles and Kathleen Williams, and brother, Edwin K. Williams Jr. He will be sorely missed by his beloved wife, Diane James; siblings, Peggy (Paul) Gresk and Mary Anne (Brian) Tracy; son, Ryan (Jennifer) Williams; his grandchildren, Calder and Quinn; many nieces and nephews; friends near and far; and most of all maybe, by his faithful friend and protector from all the scary things in the jungle nighttime, Harley. A visitation for friends and family will be held from 5-7 pm on Friday, May 17th at Leppert Mortuary Nora, 740 East 86th St Indianapolis, IN 46240.
