She was born on May 11, 1927, in Halem, Nebraska and resided in Independence Missouri from the age of 13. Lola was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a Registered Nurse who graduated from Independence Sanitarium School of Nursing and spent her early years at Remington Arms, later known as Lake City. Her adventurous spirit led her to explore South America, Central America, and Europe, including climbing Machu Picchu at the age of 80. Along with her traveling companion, Linda Drown, Lola visited the far reaches of Guatemala and Honduras accompanying the nursing students from Graceland College who were aiding in the healthcare needs of impoverished villages. Her adventures led her on a cross-country trip with her photojournalist friend, Rick Vanderpool, to photograph Columbus towns, wildflowers, and lighthouses of north America. Lola's quick wit and love of travel allowed her to connect with people from diverse backgrounds.
She leaves behind a legacy cherished by her daughter, Vicky L. Borchers; son, Mark E. Borchers, son-in-law, John T. Parry; granddaughter, Tayler Borchers-Parry; grandson, Reese J. Borchers; and great-grandson, Apollo R Borchers.
Lola was preceded in death by her spouse, R.J. Borchers; daughter-in-law, Cammie Borchers; father, Herman H. Obermeyer; and mother, Angelica W. Obermeyer (Gail).
Lola found solace in worship at St. Luke's United Church of Christ and enjoyed hobbies such as traveling, spending time at her lake house, whistling, and bowling. She was a Girl Scout troop leader and the neighborhood nurse of choice for scraped knees and black eyes. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, dedication to nursing, and zest for life.
