David Bruce Reid

Dave grew up in a US Army family and was himself an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. After the Army, he got his degree in accounting and worked in auditing and for businesses in Albuquerque, St. Thomas, VI (where is beloved daughter, Meredith, was born) and on Cape Cod – including the Fish Pier at Provincetown, Snow’s in Orleans and St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Falmouth.

Dave was an active member of First Lutheran Church, West Barnstable, where over the years he served as usher, communion assistant, Treasurer, and web-designer.

Dave was an avid birdwatcher and wrote a “Bird Report” for the quarterly newsletter of the Indian Ponds Association. He also loved travelling all around the world, folk dancing (Scottish and Contras & Squares), and watching YouTube. He was a faithful brother at Mariner’s Lodge in Cotuit where he served as Master twice.

Dave was very proud of his Scottish ancestry, learning to play the bagpipes as an adult, and was a founding member of the Highland Light Scottish Pipe Band.

Dave loved his daughter and step-children (Meredith Reid, Chuck Xander, and Sarah Xander) and their partners (Keith Moulton and Jack Lee) and he tried always to support his beloved grandchildren (Hadley Moulton, Donovan LaValley, and Spencer LaValley) by attending horseback riding demonstrations, cheerleading meets, school plays, and football games. Dave also loved his brothers and their spouses (Peter and Gretchen Reid, Bob Reid and Pat Bird – all living in RI).

A Celebration of Life will be held for Dave on Saturday, May 18th at the First Lutheran Church, West Barnstable. There will be a visiting hour beginning at 10 am with the service to begin at 11:00. A reception at the church will follow the service.
