George Chavez, Jr was called home on Apil 24, 2024 at the age of 73. To family and close friends, George was known as aka ‘Boboy’. He was born to George Chavez Sr and Rita Baeza Chavez on April 24, 1951, in Houston, Texas, and raised in the 2nd ward. George attended Blessed Sacrament School and Steven F. Austin. He enlisted in the Unites States Army from 1970 to 1973 and deployed to Vietnam from 1971 to 1972. While in the service, he received a Class A education as an Optical Lab Specialist. He continued to serve his country as a member of VFW Post #8930. George participated in military parades and veteran events. George was a self-employed Optical Technician for over 40 years. He enjoyed reading, socializing, and running. He completed several Houston Marathons. George was a lifetime resident of Memorial Park waiting to fit you with a new pair of glasses, encouraging runners, or just sit and talk.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George Chavez Sr, and Rita Baeza Chavez; sister, Flora Jean McIntyre and her husband John; nephew, Baby David; George is survived by siblings and spouse, Sebastian Tom Chavez (Kathi), Mary Jo Harper (CJ), Frederick Chavez (Terry); Uncle John Chavez (Deitlind); Aunt Mary Chavez and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and cousins.
The Chavez family will receive family and friends for visitation on Monday, May 6, 2024, from 5-9 pm, at Crespo Funeral Home, 2516 Navigation Blvd., Houston, TX 77003. A Rosary will be recited at 7 pm on Monday, May 6, 2024. The Celebration Mass, Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 11:30 AM, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 4015 Sherman St., Houston , TX 77003. Mr. Chavez will be laid to rest at Houston National Cemetery, located at 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr., Houston, TX 77038.
