Bruce was a 1971 graduate of Houston’s Stephen F. Austin High School, and he was a proud Mustang. Bruce also attended Stonewall Jackson Jr. High School and his grade school years at the old Rufus Cage Elementary School. Bruce attended hundreds, if not thousands of his school’s sports events while in cheering support of his school’s sports team. Bruce liked the Houston Texans and the Houston Astros, but he was an avid, cheering fan of the Dallas Cowboys. Bruce often laughed with others laughed with him about his intense support of the Dallas Cowboys.
Bruce worked several years for the University of Houston, where he became well acquainted with several of the university’s football players and basketball players. They knew Bruce by name, and they would occasionally talk with Bruce about their games.
Bruce had an immense love for animals of all kinds. But Bruce had a special loved for dogs. Frank could often hear Bruce talking with his dog, Coconut. Bruce had been living in a nursing facility for the last four months, but he would always asked Frank how his little girl (Coconut) was doing? Bruce would get furious if he heard of people abusing animals. Bruce looked forward to Saturday mornings because there were a lot of animal shows on television. Bruce was mesmerized with a big smile on his face while watching the shows. Though Bruce had dozens of dogs during his life; he loved black labs.
Bruce was faithful believer in God, and until the last couple of years when his health got too bad; he attended church as much as he could. But in those last couple of years of bad health … Bruce watched every televised Sunday church service that he could. He always said he would learn something in every sermon he watched. Bruce often encouraged others to attend church, and to talk with God.
