Robert “Bob” Cairl Page, age 77, of Reading, PA, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.
Born December 20, 1946, in Brooklyn, New York, Bob was the oldest son of the late William "Bill" and Irma Page. Bob graduated from Bridgewater-Raritan High School in1964 and then Rutgers University in 1968, majoring in Electrical Engineering. Prior to graduating college, Bob did electrical engineering work at Garden State Arts Center (now PNC Bank Arts Center). After graduating college, Bob moved to Boston, Massachusetts and began his first job as an Electrical Engineer at Boston Edison. He married his first wife, Leslie Kinstler, in 1968. Both of Bob’s children, Christine and Rachel, were born in Boston.
In 1972, Bob took a new job with Jersey Center Power and Light and moved back to New Jersey where he purchased his first home in Wharton, NJ. Bob was a talented handyman and renovated much of house before moving to Randolph, NJ in 1978.
In 1985, Bob married his second wife, Karol and they remained in Randolph, NJ until 1994 when Bob’s career with JCP&L took them to Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. Bob and Karol remained in the Wyomissing / Reading area until his passing.
After Bob retired in 2003, he embarked on a three-month cross country cycling trip from Oregon to New Jersey. In his retirement, Bob also completed a Master’s Degree in Library Science and served as a research librarian at Berks Community College. Bob and his wife Karol volunteered, tutoring GED students.
He and his wife, Karol enjoyed many trips to Sagamore Great Camp in upstate New York, taking each of their grandchildren there as part of a “Grandparents Weekend”. Bob enjoyed astronomy, cycling, playing guitar and mandolin, woodworking, knitting and model sailboat racing. Bob also shared a love of Civil War history with his wife, Karol. Some of other Bob’s cycling adventures included the Great Allegheny Passage from Pittsburgh to Maryland, Bon-Ton Roulet – a weeklong ride around the Finger Lakes, the Eerie Canal, Crater Lake, Glacier National Park and even several European countries.
Bob will be remembered for his kindness, patience, sense of humor and love for his family and friends.
Bob is survived by his wife, Karol of 39 years, his daughters Christine and Rachel Page, brothers Bill (Lin) and Russell Page, sister Beverly Mate, stepdaughters Stephanie Johns-Chin and Sheila Knight, and his five grandchildren Erica, Amanda, Trevor, Waverly and James.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for this Fall in New Jersey.
