Rose Jean Powell

Rose Jean Powell, age 84, of Hampton, Virginia passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Rose was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Dollie Henderson, sister Patricia Moore, nephew William Murphy and beloved husband Richard W. Powell. She is survived by her two sons, Steven E. Powell (Gail) and Michael W. Powell (Kim); several grandchildren, many great grandchildren, sister, Katie DeMass and her children and grandchildren. Rose was born September 16, 1939 to Eugene and Dollie Henderson. She was raised on a dairy farm with her two siblings and was a lifelong resident of Hampton, Va. Rose was married to the love of her life, Richard, for 54 years until his passing in 2013. Rose was an active member of Langley Baptist Church; where she belonged to several groups and sang in the Choir. She loved spending time with her church family, going to lunch after the Sunday service. She enjoyed watching golf on TV so she could see the different courses and scenery She enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with her dogs. A graveside service will be held at 11am on Tuesday, May 7, at Hampton Veterans Memorial Gardens, Pastor Ben Barrow officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Rose’s life at Langley Baptist Church in Hampton directly following the graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Langley Baptist Church or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
