It is with deep sadness that the family of D. Steven Robinson, loving husband to Elspeth (Nimmo) Robinson, announces his sudden passing on Thursday, May 2, 2024, in Stoney Creek, Ontario. Steve was born on December 15, 1945, to the late Donald and Myrtle (Bowes) Robinson in Peterborough, Ontario.
His public life was one of steadfast service to his community and church. Steve worked in municipal finance for the City of Peterborough, Ontario, before moving to the Town of Cobourg in 1982, where he worked for 42 years. Always impeccably dressed, he retired as Chief Administrative Officer in 2009. Steve studied at Wilfred Laurier University and received his accounting degree from Queen’s University. He served on many boards through his career and into retirement. Steve and Elspeth were actively involved in their church and community wherever they lived.
Steve’s life with his beloved Elspeth was grounded in their shared faith. They were married in 1967 after a courtship that began as high school sweethearts. They had two daughters whom he treasured. He was a constant and loving presence in their lives as children and adults. This love extended in equal portions to his grandchildren, and he would cross any distance to cheer, support, and care for them. He also had a great passion for music and sports - a true Renaissance man. Steve sought to live a life of faith and found deep joy in his family. He was and remains a wonderful role model.
He is survived by his loving wife, Elspeth; daughters Andrea (Craig) Jollymore and Stefani (Bryan) Penner; his cherished grandchildren Charlotte, Davis, Peter, and Seth; and his siblings Wallace (Wilda), Beth (the late Brad), and Michelle (the late Doug). He had many nieces and nephews whom he also loved.
A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. at West Highland Baptist Church in Hamilton, Ontario, with the funeral to follow at 1:00 p.m. In remembrance of Steve, the family invites those who wish to donate to Speroway. The family thanks Hamilton Police Services & Dr. Jowett & staff at Hamilton General Hospital.
